Jewish Tradition explains that the root of the soul is
expressed through one’s
name. I have always signed my work including my Hebrew
name, Yocheved, the biblical name of the mother of Moses, which means the Honor
(Kavod) of G-d. I seek to live a life that continually honors G-d and the
g-dliness inherent in each of us. My art is a direct expression of wanting
to honor G-d by paying homage to G-d’s creations, by bringing attention
to the beauty in G-d’s world and actually increasing the amount of beauty
in our world with two dimensional depictions. There is a mystical Jewish concept
that our purpose on this earth is to repair this world (Tikun Olam). I
feel that every time I transform a blank sheet of paper or canvas into
a piece of art, I am improving the world in my own small, but significant
way.
